Winter Lights 2016

Today we went to the rather fab annual Winter Lights at Angleysey Abbey. It is sold out (we got our tickets in the summer!). We loved the silver birches and the mill beautifully light up! The girls enjoyed a pulled pork bun/hot dog whilst watching the shadow dance of Peter and the Wolf. However, we did the miss the entertainers from last year!

Stir up Sunday

Today we made our Christmas pudding. We all had a stir and a wish (although sadly I couldn't find my sixpence from last year! It wasn't where I thought I had put it). I used the same recipe from last year.

We also made our Christmas cake and mini baked bean tin cakes.

Bridge making

From P's science magazine we explored different kinds of bridges. We used a sponge to replicate a simple beam bridge and looked at how, when we pressed on it, it compressed.

Then we looked at how we could make bridges stronger by building a Truss bridge from marshmallows and cocktail sticks (although I think eating them was the best part of this!)

We then used Lego to make a beam bridge before investigating how turning it into a suspension bridge increased its strength! We saw how many marbles it would take to break them!

Fireworks 2016

We went to watch the fireworks on Midsummer common before heading home for sparkler fun, hot chocolate and parkin!

Review of Things to do in October

  • Enjoy a Guide Trip to Legoland
All 4 girls enjoyed a Guide trip to Legoland!  I went too as an adult helper. I felt she was a little old, but the other 3 would like a return trip!  I thought the Lego miniland and StarWars exhibit were fab!

  • Have some half-term days out
We enjoyed trips to the Lodge at Bedford, the Botanical Gardens, Paradise wildlife park, the V and A, Wandlebury, Audley End miniature railway and Stowe, as well as a few trips to the park, a trip to see Trolls at the cinema and Gangsta Granny.  E and P had a week of swimming lessons, G did a few days of Hockey camp and I and G had a pony day.

  • Do some Halloween baking
We made some pumpkin cupcakes, soul cakes and gingerbread skeletons.

  • Celebrate G being 12
We haven't had a party yet but the husband made her a hockey goal keeper's helmet which we ate as a family.
